Yokai

Children of the Moon-Goddess
(Yokai)
The True Antevasins:
Born from the Moon without an immortal father, the Yokai are celestial beings who embody the connection between the divine and mortal realms. They are spirits and mythic creatures of Japanese folklore, known as tricksters, sages, mystics, and healers. While their existence is rare, their birth is always considered a sign of Luna's influence — either as a blessing or a lesson. They are highly respected by all children of the gods, particularly the Hikari and Okami.
Birth and Creation
There are two ways in which a Yokai can be born into the world:
-
Born into a Family (Hikari or Okami): Some Yokai are born to the divine children of Hikari or Okami, coming into the world as a direct manifestation of Luna’s will. These births are seen as both a gift and a challenge. To the family, a Yokai's arrival is either a blessing or a lesson — a reminder of Luna's desires for peace and harmony. Some families, in fear or awe, may send their Yokai children to be raised in the Lunar Temple, where they are guided and nurtured by others of their kind. Others embrace their child and raise them in the family, taking pride in their divine heritage.
-
Born from Luna's Tears: The second path of birth comes from the heartbreak of Luna herself. After the Hikari cast her out, she wept as she was banished to the moon. Her tears, filled with sorrow and longing for peace, fell upon the earth, and from these tears, new Yokai were born. These Yokai are seen as a reflection of Luna’s deepest pain and hope for the future — they are born to spread her vision of peace and unity, even as they carry the weight of her grief.
Neutrality and Purpose
The Yokai are a neutral race, deliberately distanced from the political struggles, wars, and conflicts that define the other races of the gods. Their purpose is to spread Luna’s vision — one of peace, balance, and understanding. Though Yokai are often viewed as tricksters, they use their wit and wisdom to mediate disputes, offer counsel, and foster unity. Their actions, no matter how cunning, are always in service of Luna's greater design for harmony.
Appearance
Yokai are mostly humanoid in appearance, though their forms often bear mystical, animalistic, or ethereal features. Depending on their individual heritage, they may possess glowing markings, animal traits like fox tails or rabbit ears, or other fantastical elements. These features reflect the diverse and mystical nature of their birth and connection to Luna. Despite their supernatural origins, Yokai often retain a graceful, elegant appearance, marking them as both divine and ethereal beings. Their lifespan is unknown. Culture and Society
Yokai live in a society centered on wisdom, spiritual balance, and protection. They are guardians of Luna’s sacred shrine garden and keepers of peace within the divine realms. Yokai value harmony above all else and serve as protectors and spiritual guides to those in need. They are fluent in the languages of birds, wolves, and Common, enabling them to communicate effectively across different races and cultures.
History
The Yokai's origins, whether born of the divine unions between Hikari and Okami or from Luna's weeping tears, have always connected them to the divine will of Mother Luna. Throughout history, Yokai have been key figures in maintaining peace, offering guidance, and bridging gaps between conflicting factions. They act as mediators, healers, and teachers, using their wisdom to remind the divine children of Luna’s teachings.
Views on Mixed-Race Pairings
The Yokai have no prejudices regarding mixed-race pairings. In alignment with Luna’s vision, they believe that love transcends all barriers of race, species, and gender. However, Yokai are sterile beings and cannot give birth to children. Their role is to be eternal protectors, guides, and teachers, passing on the wisdom of Luna rather than creating new life.
Sub-Races:
While the Yokai are diverse, they can generally be categorized into two main sub-races:
-
Tricksters: Known for their cleverness, wit, and mischievous nature, these Yokai often play a key role in mediating conflicts and resolving disputes. They use illusions, puzzles, and diplomacy to encourage understanding and uncover hidden truths. Their sharp intellect and social adeptness make them invaluable in navigating complex situations.
-
Sages: Revered for their deep spiritual wisdom and healing abilities, these Yokai are dedicated to preserving Luna's teachings and maintaining spiritual harmony. They serve as healers, mystics, and spiritual counselors, offering guidance to those who seek it. They play an essential role in keeping the balance and guiding others toward enlightenment.
Natural Forms
Each Yokai is born with a unique natural form that corresponds to their specific essence and divine origin. Unlike other races, Yokai do not have the ability to change into multiple forms. Instead, they possess one true form that reflects their nature — a Moon Rabbit, Kitsune, or another mythical creature. These forms are inherent to their being, and each Yokai’s transformation is a manifestation of their connection to the divine.
Though they may appear in humanoid forms while interacting with others, their true form reveals their divine heritage and often enhances their abilities, such as heightened senses, agility, or supernatural powers. These forms are also used by Yokai to connect with the natural world and to strengthen their spiritual ties to Luna.
