Children of the Sun-God (Hikari)

The Hikari, known as the Sun Children, are a proud and diverse race created from the feathers of the Sun-God during his battle with the Wolf-God. Their origins are intertwined with divine myth, and they inhabit the floating islands, where they are recognized for their genius inventions, artistic talents, and mastery of metals and precious stones. The Hikari society is highly organized, governed by a theocratic system that emphasizes beauty, light, and order.

The Hikari appear in various forms, from anthropomorphic birds to ethereal humanoids with avian features. They can be categorized into two main breeds: Harpies and Seraphs. Harpies are fierce and militaristic, with bird heads, powerful wings, and bird-like legs. They serve as the race's military and law enforcers. Seraphs, on the other hand, are elegant and ethereal, often working as diplomats, artisans, and religious figures. Both breeds are characterized by their stunning plumage, sharp eyes, and the ability to speak both Common and avian tongues.

The Hikari's rich culture, divine heritage, and striking appearance make them a formidable and influential race in their world.

Appearance:

Depending on their subrace, their appearance can vary widely, ranging from half-avian, half-human hybrids to more ethereal humans with avian features such as wings, tails, feathers, or ears. Harpies and Seraphs do not innately speak Avian, though they can understand it. Hikaris' skin tones are natural, similar to their hair, which tends to be lighter in color, often blonde. Their eyes can range from yellow to orange to red. These beings can live up to 200 years, with heights ranging from 5 to 7 feet.

Society and Culture:

The Hikari are a proud and highly evolved race, renowned for their genius inventions, knowledge of metals and precious stones, and artistic talents. They are at the top of the pecking order among the children of the gods, ensuring their dominance is known to all. Their society is organized, with a theocratic governance and a strong emphasis on beauty, light, and order.

History:

The Hikari trace their origins to Luna, who birthed immortal twin daughters with two fathers. The Sun-God cast the wolf god into the pits of hell, and during their battle, feathers scattered onto floating islands, transforming into mortal children known as the Hikari. This event is remembered in Hikari mythology as a foundational story of their people.

Seraph

Seraphs are the ethereal representatives of the Hikari, embodying the beauty of their sun god father and their mother. They often work as diplomats, hierophants, and artisans. Seraphs cannot speak the avian tongue but understand it and converse in Common. Young, beautiful Seraph women are chosen as shrine maidens in various celebrations, serving shrines of Hikari, other gods, and spirits.

Harpy

The Harpies are an anthropomorphic bird race with humanoid bodies and bird heads. They have feathers covering parts of their bodies, bird-like legs with talons, and large wings on their backs, separate from their arms. Their heads are entirely avian, featuring sharp beaks, keen eyes, and feathered crests. Harpies possess an otherworldly beauty and femininity despite their fierce appearance, with lifespans ranging from 100-150 years. They speak both Common and the avian tongue. Harpies form a matriarchal hierarchy within their ranks, serving as military, judges, law enforcement, and authority figures. They are known for their fierce loyalty and prowess in battle, often executing the Sun-God's decrees with precision and fervor.

Stereotypes on Miscegenation
(mixed race pairings)

The Hikari maintain exclusive ties with the Helians and Yokai, viewing any union with the Okami as a grave betrayal punishable by death. Secret romances or pregnancies involving an Okami are met with harsh and unforgiving consequences—ranging from mutilation and enslavement to execution. In the rare case that a mixed pairing results in a child, the offspring is considered a Hikari, but the ancient day-and-night rule is invoked: if the child is born during the day, they are Hikari; if born at night, they are Okami.

The Sun Sacrament

The Sun Sacrament is a revered ritual among the Hikari, performed in devotion to the Sun-God. This sacred ceremony grants the participant the ability to transform into a bird, a gift that symbolizes the Sun-God's favor and a deeper connection to their divine heritage. The form of the bird can vary, but it will always be a creature capable of flight.
